The Port Townsend Film Festival has been connecting filmmakers, film lovers and communities since 1999. This year’s special guests are actor Bruce Dern and Singer, Songwriter, Author, Activist and subject of the documentary Wish Me Away, Chely Wright, along with Festival Emcee and Magician, Joey Pippia. Panels, outdoor movies, indoor screenings, and a special Friday evening dinner are all part of the line up. Come celebrate the return of the salmon to the NW’s rivers! The theme this year is “Dances with Salmon 2012″. An exciting menu of hands-on activities and “edutainment” gives visitors a unique opportunity to discover and appreciate the complexities of the natural world and the significance of salmon to people of the Northwest. Come get carried away at the Northwest Carriage Museum! Featuring 27 magnificently restored horse-drawn carriages, the museum will transport you back in time! Adults and kids love the interactive back room. On Saturday, September 22 the museum celebrates its 10th Anniversary with free admission, popcorn, cake and tours between 10:00am – 4:00pm. Then it’s Oktoberfest from 5:00pm – 9:00pm with German food, beer and wine, a live band and dancing. Tickets are $15/person, including food. Call or go online for more information.

Let’s go fly a kite! This year’s kite festival features impressive ground and air displays of color and imagination. Activities include kids’ kitemaking, beginning sportkite lessons, and sportkite demonstrations. The highlight of the weekend is the Whidbey Island Sport Kite Championships, one of the premier sportkite competitions in the Pacific Northwest. Individual, pairs, and team events are included. Plus a teddy bear drop each morning at 10:00am for kids 10 and under. Food, hands-on activities and fun for the whole family.
